A Fellow Mommy Needs Your Prayers...

While we will continue on with our blog post series/giveaway, "Your Questions...His Word," we need to turn our focus and prayers to a fellow grieving Mommy. Please join me in lifting Sonya and her husband, Seth, up to the Lord in prayer.

Sonya delivered her son, Zion Thomas, early this morning after a trip to the emergency room last night that revealed that his little heart was no longer beating. Zion is now with this big brother, Elijah, in heaven. She described Zion as...

"...2.21 lbs, 13.5" long and the perfect combination of Seth's long body, my face and even Grace's lips. We are struggling to make sense of this all now and remain in a state of shock. We have only our faith to get us through. Please pray!"

I have to admit, when I received this news this morning on our way to church, I immediately burst to tears and told Justin, "I don't understand!" My heart went back to my own losses; three babies in all. Why does this happen? More and more questions flood my heart and mind as I seek to see God in and through all this. While we may not ever have all the answers to each of our specific questions on this side of heaven, we do have His Word; a rock-solid guarantee of His promises to us. While we can't always understand, we can choose to trust. We know His plans are for good. We also know how much it hurts. Though it hurts beyond the scope of what any mere words can begin to describe, we can rest in the promise that He is with us all along the way.

Please join me in praying for her now...

Dear Sovereign Lord,
We praise you as we think about Zion Thomas resting in Jesus' arms. It's a beautiful picture to think of each of our children in heaven, Lord, and I can't imagine the singing and dancing of the angels as you welcomed little Zion home. I bet Elijah has showed him all around heaven already and that's just a precious, precious picture. Still, Lord, we are left with so many questions on this side of heaven. We can trust that you know the end of this story, Lord, and we just lift Sonya and Seth up to you now. We pray that you would cover them with your grace, Father, as they walk through this valley. Lord, we ask that you bring people around them who will be Your hands and feet as they minister to them and meet any needs that they might have. We thank you for the personal relationship that Sonya and Seth have with Your Son, Jesus, and we ask that you use this heartbreaking story to turn more hearts to Him. Heavenly Father, we pray that you bring a peace to Sonya and Seth's hearts as they face each day. I can't help but think of Isaiah 26:3 where we are reminded that, "You will keep in perfect peace, him whose mind is steadfast because he trusts in you." Keep them close, Lord, through this trial. I am so thankful that you never let us go, Lord, and that you are right here with us as we walk through the trials in life. Jesus told us that we would face trials of many kinds, but to "take heart" because He has "overcome the world." (John 16:33). Thank you, Jesus, for overcoming! Thank you for conquering sin and death! Thank you for making a way! Thank you for giving us a hope for eternity that is found in no other person or thing. We love you and we commit Seth and Sonya to your care. It is in your precious, saving name we pray...Amen.

Sonya, as a group of ladies who have "been there" we want you to know that you are loved. Your precious baby boy is cherished and we are honoring him today. Please know that our hearts go out to you and Seth and little Grace. We commit, now, to be prayer warriors for you in the tough days ahead. Be blessed, sweet Sister.

If you feel so led, I am sure Sonya and Seth would appreciate any words of comfort you may have to offer. Feel free to leave them in the comments below.

Sonya,

I am so sad and my heart just aches for you and Seth. I'm sure baby Zion was perfect. And with confidence, I can say that he is most definitely perfect now, in every way. Every day is a day closer to being with your precious boys. Praying God would increase your faith during this time.

Where Joy and Sorrow Meet

There’s a place of quiet stillness ‘tween the light and shadows reach
Where the hurting and the hopeless seek everlasting peace
Words of men and songs of angels whisper comfort bittersweet
Mending grief and life eternal where joy and sorrow meet

There is a place where hope remains
In crowns of thorns and crimson stains
And tears that fall on Jesus’ feet
Where joy and sorrow meet

There’s a place the lost surrender and the weary will retreat
Full of grace and mercy tender in times of unbelief
For the wounded there is healing, strength is given to the weak
Broken hearts find love redeeming where joy and sorrow meet

There’s a place of thirst and hunger where the roots of faith grow deep
And there is rain and rolling thunder when the road is rough and steep
There is hope in desperation there is victory in defeat
At the cross of restoration where joy and sorrow meet

Sonya,
While my heart aches for you, I also smile to know that our sons are playing together in Heaven right now. Zion, Austin and Alex will keep each other company until we can re-unite with them again soon ...
XOXOXOXO
